Questions or something not working? Email support@stickermint.com with your store's .myshopify.com address and, if it's about one address, the address itself. We reply within one business day.

Getting started

  1. Install Mint 404 Redirects from the Shopify App Store. The app home shows a short setup checklist.
  2. Turn on the 404 tracker: on the app home click Open theme editor. The theme editor opens App embeds with 404 tracker ready; switch it on and click Save.
  3. Check it: click Open a test page on the app home. A test address opens on your store and shows your 404 page; the checklist step turns green within seconds. If your online store is password protected, enter the storefront password in that browser first.
  4. Fix broken links: addresses appear under Broken links as visitors reach them, most visited first, each with a suggested target. Click Redirect, or open the address to pick another target.

How it works

  • The tracker is an app embed that prints a few lines of script only on your 404 page. It sends the missing address (without its query string or language folder) and where the visitor came from to the app, once per address per browser session. Nothing visible is added and no other page is affected. It doesn't run in the theme editor, and it skips visitors who declined analytics in Shopify's cookie banner.
  • Known bots and crawlers are ignored, and so are addresses Shopify can't redirect (cart, checkout, account, apps, collection tag filters …) and your ignore list (Settings). The defaults ignore probes for other platforms, such as /wp-admin.
  • Suggestions: the app reads the handles and titles of your published products, collections, pages and blog posts (refreshed daily) and matches each broken address to the closest ones. It understands old platform addresses such as /product/name/ (WooCommerce), /catalog/name.html and /blogs/news/post, plurals and small typos, and shows how close each match is.
  • Redirects are Shopify's own URL redirects (Online Store → Navigation → URL redirects): the app creates them through Shopify's Admin API. They keep working without the app. Shopify applies one redirect to every language and market folder.
  • Broken again: if visitors reach the 404 page on an address that had a redirect (the redirect was deleted), it goes back to Broken links with a "Broken again" badge.
  • Undo: every redirect the app creates is listed under Recent redirects on the app home with Undo, which deletes it in Shopify and puts the address back in Broken links.

Pro features

  • Bulk fix: select broken links (up to 100 at a time) and redirect them all to their suggestions in one click.
  • Auto-fix (off by default, Settings): new broken links whose best suggestion scores 85% or more, clearly ahead of the next one, are redirected for you. A link you undo is never auto-fixed again.
  • CSV import: Redirects → Import from CSV. Use the columns "Redirect from" and "Redirect to" (Shopify's own export format; "path, target" or "from,to" also work), up to 20,000 rows per file. Every row is checked first: addresses Shopify can't redirect, bad targets, rows pointing to themselves, duplicates, loops (A → B → A) and chains (A → B → C is imported as A → C). Nothing changes until you click Import; you choose whether existing redirects for the same address are kept or replaced. Full URLs on your own domains are turned into paths.
  • CSV export of all your store's redirects (re-importable in Shopify or this app) and of the 404 log.
  • Where visitors came from: the websites, or your own pages, that link to each broken address, so you can fix a link at its source.

Honest limits

  • Only visits from browsers that run the page's script are counted, and the tracker needs the app embed switched on in your live theme.
  • Shopify allows up to 100,000 redirects per store (more on Shopify Plus) and only applies a redirect to an address that shows the 404 page.
  • Shopify notes that redirects from addresses with ?query strings may not work as expected; the 404 log stores addresses without them.
  • Suggestions compare addresses and titles, not page content. Check matches marked "Possible" before using them.

Common questions

The checklist doesn't turn green. Make sure the 404 tracker is switched on in your live theme and saved, and that the test page shows your 404 page (on a password-protected store, enter the password first). Ad blockers in your browser can block the report; try another browser.

A redirect doesn't work. Shopify only redirects addresses that would show the 404 page: if a product, collection or page now exists at that address, it is shown instead.

I changed the app proxy URL. The tracker sends to /apps/mint-redirects. If you changed that path under Settings → Apps → Mint 404 Redirects → App proxy, change it back.

Plans

Free logs 25 new broken links a month (visits to links already in the log keep counting) and creates 25 redirects a month, with suggestions and full access to your store's redirects (browse, search, add, edit, delete). Pro is $2.99/month after a 7-day free trial and adds unlimited tracking and redirects, bulk fix, auto-fix, CSV import and export, and referrers. Plans are chosen and changed on Shopify's plan page (Plans → Choose a plan / Manage plan) and billed by Shopify.

Privacy

See our privacy policy and security policy. In short: the app stores storefront addresses and visit counts, never names, emails, cookies or IP addresses.
